The Datse Multimedia Base theme is the parent theme for this site.
It is based on the Thematic Theme Framework. I have worked with Thematic for a while now, but with recent updates and looking more closely at it, it has not been updated officially in some time.
There have been a number of people working on a new version of the Thematic Theme Framework. I had already done a bit of work on my own updates to Thematic when I first heard about that, and I really wanted that the new version would really mean that I wouldn’t have to do the work that I was doing to get things to work the way that I wanted.
When I installed the newer version, I found that it was behaving even less well than the previous official version did with the current way that WordPress had changed since Thematic was most recently released.
With this in mind, I decided that I would just work my way through doing what I wanted with the current version in the WordPress.org Theme Repository. My initial plans were that I wanted to submit my theme to the repository. But then I realised that would be dealing with a large group of humans, and I am currently not really wanting to deal with that.
So, currently, the only way to get the theme to work on your site is to manually install it. And I have found that installing updates ends up being a bit of a pain due to the “manual install” process will not allow you to “upgrade” an existing theme. Which in a way makes a fair amount of sense. It is just rather frustrating when you are actively developing a theme.
The “shop” has a couple of versions of the theme available now. I haven’t setup a way that a person can easily download without going to the shop.
